After a much-publicized rocky launch, Apple iPhone G3 users (especially those who were forced into paying additional for the plan upgrade) have had a right to complain with reports of consistently dropped calls and occasional denied access to the 3G network.

Apple has been reportedly scrambling to develop a remedy to the common iPhone bugs and according to Business Week, a software fix should finally become reality sometime in September.

The problems are being blamed on coding on an Infineon chip within the phone despite the fact that since launch, the blame has been passed back and forth between Infineon, AT&T, and Apple.

Apple is hopeful that their forthcoming software solution will be sufficient in avoiding a full ought product recall.

Music lovers have another reason to celebrate as Nokia's unleashed its latest handset, the 5610 XpressMusic; a compact slider with external music controls.

This new unit is designed with a slider key to access music with a flick of the thumb and delivers clear sound quality, up to 22 hours of music playback and a memory capacity for up to 3,000 songs on an optional 4GB microSD card.

User interface takes place via a 2.2-inch, 16.7 million-color display and it also features a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus and dual LED flash.

The Nokia 5610 XpressMusic comes with a wired stereo headset, a USB cable for side-loading music and a 2GB memory card.

In my last post, I discussed the potential of Verizon's new Voyager phone that will bring visual voicemail to the masses. It turns out this concept is already alive and well through a service called PhoneTag. The concept is simple: Those of us who would rather skip long, drawn-out voice messages by reading them instead of listening to them can have PhoneTag automatically transcribe voicemail to text and best of all this one works with all major U.S. carriers (including Verizon) and offers up unlimited voicemail storage.

PhoneTag's platform automatically converts voice messages to text and delivers them to customers via email and/or SMS text. The message also includes an attached audio file of the original message and can be accessed through PhoneTag's user platform.

The service allows the user to scroll through their messages without having to listening to each individually. All pertinent information is recorded in the email, which means it's searchable, achievable, and easily accessible. Users can forward, delete or respond to the voicemail message.

The service, available now, is $9.95/month for 40 messages.

Don't you hate it when you have a pile of new voicemails and to get to the important one you have to first listen to then delete five from your mother and three from your annoying roommate? Well that may change real soon in the mobile technology world as Verizon Wireless has just introduced Visual Voice Mail, an application that manages voice mail on phones. Available initially on their Voyager model (shown), users will be able to delete, reply and forward voice mail messages without having to listen to prior messages (or annoying voice instructions) making it a more effective way to manage and respond to messages.

Visual Voice Mail lists voice mail messages with date and time of receipt and message duration- more like the traditional email retrieval structure than voicemail. From the display, customers can call back, reply, forward, add to contacts, and archive message (to internal or external memory).

Users will be able to store 40 messages for 40 days (double the storage and retention time of Basic Voice Mail). In addition, they can create up to 10 greetings, 20 distribution lists and 50 distribution members to receive messages.

Built upon the Sony Ericsson T610i architecture, the new T700i combines ultra thin design with a healthy feature-set. With an internal 3.2-megapixel camera and 2.0-inch TFT display, Sony also adds an MP3 player with the ability to play through its high-quality stereo speakers (or via color-matched headset).

Files can be transferred over high-speed HSDPA or Bluetooth wireless connectivity. A 512MB memory card comes included in the box for more ways to expand.

The Sony Ericsson T700i will be available in selected markets in the colors Black on Silver, Black on Red and Shining Silver from early Q4 2008. Price to be announced.

Between rising fuel costs driving up ticket prices and the joys of working with airport security, it's no wonder more travelers are shying away from flying. The good news is at least one of the major airlines plans to entice potential customers with the promise of high-speed Internet access.

Delta Airlines is partnering with Aircell (airborne communications provider) to install their network on the airline's domestic fleet of some 330 aircrafts. The system will allow customers traveling with Wi-Fi enabled devices (such as laptops, smartphones and PDAs) to access the broadband Internet while in flight.

However, don't expect your airfare to cover the cost of this luxury. For those who plan to use the service, a flat fee of $9.95 will be charged on flights of three hours or less, and that charge jumps to $12.95 on flights of more than three hours.
