The company is being alternatively slammed and praised after it announced the pricing for its LTE data rates this week. Verizon plans to charge $50 per month for 5 GB and $80 per month for 10 GB with $10 per GB overage charges on each.
This is less than the company currently charges for its 3G 5GB plan, which is good. It is more than competitor Clearwire charges (and probably more than T-mobile, although their data rates are somewhat impenetrable), which may be bad. Actually, it is hard to compare the various next generation data plans, because they are all sort of apples and oranges. In fact, the most important feature of each may not have anything to do with their various and respective technical merits, but rather the more prosaic feature of whether or not they are available with a strong signal in whatever area you happen to need them.
